Electricians for plug-in solar checks in WA

You do not need an electrician to plug in a compliant kit under the draft rules. But if your switchboard is old, unlabelled or in unknown condition, the draft says to have a licensed electrician inspect it first.

Taking electrician listings now

Licensed WA electricians can list their plug-in solar checks for free. Licence numbers are checked before a listing goes up.

What a plug-in solar check is likely to cover

  • Whether the switchboard has modern protection, such as RCDs or RCBOs on each circuit.
  • The condition of the power point you plan to use, and the circuit behind it.
  • Clear labelling of the circuits on the switchboard.
  • Upgrading old safety switches or the switchboard if needed. That work must be done by a licensed electrician.

The government is also asking whether a check should be compulsory before anyone uses a plug-in system. The final rules will settle that. More in do I need an electrician?
